Children's Ministry...

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! 1 John 3:1 (New Living Translation)

There’s a kid inside each of us, and there’s a great big God who loves you more than the whole wide world.  He has a plan for you!

Whether you’re a parent looking for a safe, biblically sound, positive church experience for your child or a kid looking for a cool place where you know you’ll be loved, and get to do cool things that help you learn more about God and share His love…Highland Nazarene may be just the place you’ve been looking for.

Highland Church of the Nazarene believes our kids need to:  Know Jesus loves them, Grow in faith and Share God’s love.  Our Children’s Department includes Sunday School for all ages.

Children’s Choir 10:45 -11:15a

Kids from 3 years to 10 years get a chance to SING! Old favorites, new favorites, and we even get to play the colored handbells from time to time.

Children’s Worship

Every week during the 11:00a service, we have our own worship time.  Kids get a chance to share prayer requests, sing songs, get into God’s word, and fellowship!

Kinder Church:  3 years to Kdg. 10:45a

Junior Church:  1st grade – 4th grade 10:45a

Sunday Night Second Half

Every Sunday Evening at 6:00p, the kids get to join the adults in the sanctuary for singing the first half of the evening.  The "Second Half" of the evening service is filled with a scheduled actvitiy such as a Veggie Tale video, crafts or a Mission Lesson, complete with a snack.  It is great fun in a relaxed atmosphere!

Caravan

Wednesday Evening 7:00 – 8:00p, this Bible-based scouting program encourages children to learn life skills and earn merit badges to highlight their accomplishments. (Kindergarten-5th grade)

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.  Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. (Psalm 100:1-2)

At Highland, we believe that music is an important element in our worship services.  We utilize a variety of styles of music.  Our selections range from contemporary Christian praise choruses and songs to classic hymns.

The definitive criterion for selection of our music is the message.  We see worship as our response to God's initiative with us.  Praise is not about what we want, need, desire or prefer - it is about Him.

1.    God considers music a very high priority in celebrating His worship. – I Chronicles 14:25-16:22, Ephesians 5:19
2.    Singing praise to God is not optional. It is commanded to all. –Psalm 66:1-2, I Chronicles 16:23-35
3.    The use of musical instruments is commanded in the scriptures. –Psalm 98:4-6, 81:1-4, 33:1-3, 147:7, 150
4.    All songs must be consistent with scripture and doctrinally sound. – Colossians 3:16

Praise team practices are held Friday nights, 7:30-9:00 p.m.

If you are interested in using your musical talents for worship –
instrument or vocal or both - we would love to have you!

Youth Ministries

So you’re too old for Children’s Church, what now??? Come join the youth group!  After all, it’s not just the "kids" that get to have fun at church! You’re never too old, or too cool, to make some new friends, play some silly games, and learn about the life that Jesus Christ calls us all to live and the plans He has specifically for you! Join us for Sunday School every Sunday morning at 9:45am and then come back on Wednesday’s at 7:00pm. And don’t forget to stay up-to-date with what’s coming up – we try and do something "extra" once a month!

Jesus Christ made missions and compassion very simple to His disciples, but He also made it very clear that missions and compassion are not just words, but actions.  Here at Highland Church, we don't just hear the word, we live it out in our everyday lives. We are committed to serving people around the world and in our neighborhoods…with no other agenda than.... to show Christ’s love

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.
I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.
I was a stranger and you invited me in.
I needed clothes and you clothed me.
I was sick and you looked after me.
I was in prison and you came to visit me.
                                            - Matthew 25:35-36

Local Outreach

Currently we partner closely with Community Sharing in the Milford area and the Flint Eastside Mission in the Flint area.

Compassion as a Lifestyle

We believe that compassion arises out of the good news of Christ, and at Highland Church it is something that God awakens and works in our daily lifestyle as we respond to the love and grace we have received in our Lord and as we respond to the need of our neighbors.
